Welcome to my new Tuesday feature! Remember me mentioning my friends should not encourage me? Well, I’m going to run with the ideas and see what happens. I’ll share my outlining process (without giving away plot!) and then I will start posting chapters, here, free to read every Tuesday. Now let’s just see what I have so far . . . Oh, and names will be changed to protect my goofball friends. They know who they are.
Hero (AKA the reluctant scholar turned mage turned hero): Liena
Awesome Swordmaster (no coffee, no combat): Dayna
Healer (wise, gifted, and not afraid to smack enemies): Michela
Weaponless Fighter (AKA Ninja Princess): Fiona
Elf Mage (blunt objects or bust): Lila
Faerie Queen (she of the velvet fist in the iron glove): Grace
Arch-Nemesis (Faerie Lands’ Miss Popular): Amazonia
Evil Sorceress (it takes practice to be bad): Veronica
Adorable Creature (don’t ask how a cat and dragon procreate): Ginger
The world is known as Fantastica (which, coincidentally, is the name of my first photography book, now in progress. Ahem). The lands of the faeries and elves is made up of cities carried on the backs of flying tortoises. If you want to travel, you either rent a pegasus or bribe a mage. Even faeries are reluctant to fly between cities. The updraft of flying tortoises can be insane.
Concept: Poor Liena really just wants to spend her days studying and writing, but it’s kind of hard to ignore an order from the Faerie Queen when you happen to be her daughter! The recalcitrant hero is going to have to set out to gather allies and save her lands if she wants to be allowed back into her library. Unfortunately, with a collection of allies that includes a coffee-obsessed swordsmaster, a snarky half-cat/half-dragon, and a slightly violent mage, one wonders just how well she’s going to do at saving anything when her own sanity is at risk.
Come back next week as I offer some ally bios and start dig into what makes them tick. (It’s probably coffee. It’s always coffee.)
