Over the weekend, I attempted two clay items. One was a waffle cone with soft serve ice cream. The other was a mini cupcake made from a mold. The waffle cone . . . well . . .
Please do forgive the poor photography. I took this with my iPhone. I accidentally left my actual camera downstairs, and I’m feeling too lazy to go get it. (Hey, at least I’m honest.) Now, the cone itself. It’s okay, but it’s too long and not waffle-y enough. I’ll be practicing for sure. The ice cream itself came out nice, and I kinda love my sprinkles. To give you an idea of how it SHOULD look, behold this:
My brain cannot wholly process the awesome that are these two cones. The scoops are the easy part. The cones, not so much. I think I will start hammering away at this technique until I manage to master it. Give me a few years, though.
As for the cupcake in a mold, I am kinda pleased.
The cupcake shape itself is faboo, and the silicon mold was sooooo easy to use. I think I will attempt next time to make it look like it has a wrapper on it. You know. Like this:
PetitPlat, as you can see, is one of my clay idols and is bloody brilliant at what she does. Even better, she has a book coming out this month with tutorials on how to many 21 different clay foods, including holiday themed ones. I will have this book, and I will craft my way through it. It will be a messy war, but I shall endure until the end. Or curl up in a corner sobbing at my lack of talent. Either way, it’ll be fun! Maybe I’ll even get good enough to start making stuff like this:
Or maybe not.
On another note, I’m running a pre-order contest over on my Facebook page to help promote CHRONICLE OF DESTINY. I have some posters to win, and anyone who enters will get a bookmark. You just need to pre-order the book and post proof of confirmation. Come check it out here and join in the fun! The current release date of July 16 might be pushed forward to sometime THIS MONTH, so if you want to win some pretty posters, you better get your order in now.
