My mood is remarkably chipper today, and I think I can blame the lady I met at Starbucks while getting my beloved caramel frappuchino. Here’s the characterization.
Age: 60s to 70s. Beautifully grayed hair worn in curls piled messily on her head. Softly wrinkled face that seems to have earned the wrinkles from smiling. Bright, bright green eyes. Trim and fit and full of energy. She wore khaki pants, a green tank top that matched her eyes, and a khaki fisherman’s vest that did not have fishing gear in it. Instead, she had random pet grooming tools. In the front right pocket was a tiny homemade knitted plush doggie. On her feet were vivid pink sneakers. On her head was a knitted sock doggie cap. (Think a sock monkey, but it was definitely a dog. I think dauchsund to be specific.) She knew all of the baristas by name, they knew her order before she made it, and she asked them about their families and lives. They all called her ‘sister’.
She was, without doubt, the most amazing person I’ve seen in a long while. She just brought joy to the air around her. I want to be her when I grow up.
And because she has left me in such an insanely happy mood, I leave you with the song I was humming as I walked in to work. This is a cover by local girl band Paradise, who I am entirely in love with. (No, seriously, go watch all of their videos and then get their debut single from iTunes. You will not regret it!)
