Yep, I’ve been MIA where posting is concerned. There’s so much going on behind the scenes that I can barely keep my head above water! Among other things, I am actively working on two different photography projects. Today I’m going to introduce you to The Door, which is an on-going journey following a young girl as she opens a faerie door and enters a world of magic where everyone smiles to see her–but not always with the best of intentions. Not all magic is good magic, after all.
Starting after this post (because today we needed an intro!), I’ll post the photo first followed by the story, and then talk about the behind-the-scenes.
On to the photo!
The faerie door had been there for months before the magic crept out and sang a siren song. The Girl thought maybe she had imagined it in a dream, but there it was when she awoke. A tiny key sat on the floor as if to whisper “Use me.” She couldn’t resist fitting the key to the lock, just to see what happened.
I want to say how much I adore Lily Stribling. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before (she shows up a LOT in my photos), but she always impresses me with how well she takes direction and shows emotion–better than some adults I know, and she’s only seven!
This shoot was wonderfully easy to do. I showed up at Lily’s house, we went to her room, cleaned a bit, and then shot all three images. Okay, there was SOME giggling as the words “You would NOT have pie in bed with you!” left my mouth (she was nomming a snack when I arrived), but other than that, it was a perfect start to the project.
Really, no shenanigans this time! Those came on later shoots. You’ll see more as the story progresses. For now, I leave with this first look, and will let you wonder what lays beyond the door . . .
