“Oh that Mermaid!” The Naiad was as warm and friendly as the last denizen had been mean and dangerous. “Thinks she owns everything in the water!” The Naiad’s eyes glowed as she sighed fondly. “You human children are so wet behind the ears about magic—that’s Naiad humor.” The Girl said nothing but she was smiling again. Unlike The Naiad, she could not talk underwater. That was okay; The Naiad heard her heart. “You can get out over there.” She pointed toward a distant shape. “Tug on the line, and out you go!”
I just want to say how happy I am to have the incomparable Uva Stega back on my blog and in my photos! You guys know her as Tariah from The Chronicle Series, and Aenya Shaughnessy from The Shaughnessy File. She’s also done steampunk shoots, my Urban Faerie, and more. She is a ball of sass and awesome, and I had missed her madly. (She was dealing with health issues, and is now recovering nicely!)
Basically, this entire shoot was giggles and laughter and trying to keep a camera steady while a petite naiad in a wispy costume jumped up and down on a trampoline in order to look as if she was underwater.
We did the shoot in The Waif’s mother’s backyard since they have a large trampoline. (Thank you, Sarah!!) I had made the costume myself, and it had never been put on anyone, so until Uva had it on, I honestly just had my fingers crossed for the best. Lucky for us, it was perfect!
(Side Note: So, when Uva was changing, she stripped off her clothes to put on the costume. Sarah’s three-year-old piped up “I like your boobs!” I about died of laughter.)
We had some, er, technical problems with the costume as every few bounces Uva had to pull her top back up, but it worked! And pretty much from the first shot, I knew that this was totally going to work as I wanted. We did several frames of the intro photo, but that last? The “Out You Go” shot was literally the first one I did of her trying to point and float at the same time. I shot a few others to cover my bases, but I knew I had gotten it on the first go.
A few hours of digital magic later, and my Naiad was very nicely floating underwater and being awesome. Happy artist is very happy!
Next week, prepare to laugh. The Girl does get herself out of the water, but in a way you will never guess, and the whole thing has a delightfully Wonderland vibe to it.
Next week will also be an early post as I will be vending at SacAnime Winter! This time, I’ll be in Artist Alley, so come by and say hi!
Until then, happy holidays to everyone. ❤
