The road from the fountain wound along another branch of the river. The water now bubbled up bits of magic. The Girl often thought she spied a fin breaking the surface too. She shortly encountered a new figure watching the water as well. “A pirate!” she said in surprise, and The Pirate turned to look at her mischievously in turn.
“Aye, and one who prefers coffee over ale, rivers over oceans, and a good book over a raukus fight! Come along with you.” She ambled down the road, gesturing vaguely back over her shoulder. “The mountains are not far. You’ll like them. Beware the cold though. It bites back.”
Ah, yes, the incomparable Dawn Star Wood! One of my sisters from another mister and my primary cohort when it comes to artistic endeavors. Dawn really came through for me on this one! I had had two other shoots planned, and weather and external forces meant both got canceled. I had exactly 24 hours to get SOMEthing photographed in time for school deadline, and I sent Dawn and another friend Jeannie a frantic message of “WHO WANTS TO BE IN THE DOOR?!?!”
They both jumped in and I hastily figured out who/what they were based on the sort of costumes we could slap together. Dawn, being Dawn, said she could totally be a Coffee Pirate. (You’ll get to see Jeannie later!) So, off I went in the crummy weather to Dawn’s place; she has a creek and a pathway right behind her danged house that made the perfect backdrop. Snapped some shots and zipped off to shoot some of Jeannie as well.
Sometimes the story is told FOR me on the basis of necessity. Lucky for me I just happen to have friends willing to play. Go show Dawn some love over at her Facebook page! Her profile pic is one of the outtakes. 😉
Also, my sincerest apologies for the two-week lapse in posting. I had surgery on my kidney to remove copious stones, and it knocked me pretty flat. (I ended up in the ER. Fun!) I’m nearly back to normal, so posting has resumed! This week early so I can post another on Friday to hopefully get us caught up. I’m also now shooting Part II of The Door, and I had an epic adventure out to Castello di Amorosa in Napa. They were awesome about me traipsing around with people in costume.
