The mountains were not too steep to climb, even in fuzzy slippers. The Girl continued around the winding paths until she surprised herself to see a figure sitting in a small clearing. He did not look friendly at first, but then he smiled at her. “Don’t fear me, Girl,” he offered. “I am but a Hermit enjoying the quiet.” He got to his feet and sighed as if burdened yet with humor. “I suppose I can tolerate company long enough to see you on your way. And don’t you smile at me! I’m not at all friendly.”
“Of course not,” The Girl answered, “that’s why there’s good magic in your eyes.”
He laughed. “Oh well, you got me there!”
The day I did this shoot was a busy one. I literally went right from this shoot over to do The Mermaid as well. My wonderful friend Jes Gonzales volunteered to be my Hermit, and though we initially intended to hit a nearby park, it turned out he had the perfect front yard instead! Yes, that landscape around him is totally real, and it really is part of his property!
Jes is always fun to work with, and a brilliant actor, so this shoot went with lightning speed. Sadly for you folks, that means not as much behind-the-scenes to tell! Lucky for me, it was one less stress amid this epic project I’ve been undertaking. Next week introduces another new character, and the journey to that shoot involved a fun hike up into the mountains. I wore boots, not fuzzy slippers, though. That only works for little girls in magical worlds.
