Up through the mountains went The Girl as the air grew colder. It did not yet feel alarming, though. The Girl came around a bend and beheld a figure covered in fur who merrily made tiny snowmen in the air. The Winter looked at her in turn and smiled. “There is external cold, and there is internal. The external is not so bad, is it?” She began to walk along the path, and her furs billowed. “This way, furless one. And do not let the cold get inside.”
The wonderful Donna stepped up to be my Winter, and boy were we lucky she got to be bundled into furs! Despite the bright sunlight of midday when we shot this, there was a seriously cold wind blowing. We shivered our way through what might be my fastest shoot on record. However, despite that, I am inordinately pleased by how these images came out! The wind ended up adding to the entire scene, creating beautiful dynamics of motion in the fur. Ee!
Next week we finally encounter the true cold, and The Girl faces down a new challenge. Only two images remain in Part One of The Door, and after that, I’ll talk more about the project as a whole, and perhaps tease a bit as to what will come in Part Two.
